Travel Tip Tuesday - Travelling sustainably

Travelling sustainably

We live in a world that needs looking after and protecting. That is why everyone is telling us to think more sustainably and carefully about how we run our day to day lives. And there is no exception when travelling. Here are 5 easy tips and tricks anyone can do while travelling to be more sustainable and keep our planet healthy!

Tip 1: Pack a reusable carrier bag

There is no need for plastic bags in today’s world. There are so many alternatives to a plastic bag and some which fold up into virtually nothing so they will not take up too much space in your bag. They also double up as a great beach bag!

Tip 2: Have your own water bottle

Do not rely on buying water in plastic bottles repeatedly. It is far better to pack a good reusable one and keep it with you throughout your travels and refill it where possible. Most places now have facilities that can provide you with clean drinking water.

Tip 3: Consider how you travel

If you need to fly to your travel destination, consider which airline you choose. Many airlines such as Qantas, United and KLM now use sustainable aviation biofuel which is just awesome. Additionally try and take direct flights where possible as this also saves on carbon emissions.

Tip 4: Book eco-conscious accommodation

Many hotels and hostels now advertise their eco-friendly practises, and these are great to support through staying with them. So, when booking, look or ask about these practises.

Tip 5: Support local economies and people

One great thing about travellers to many countries is that it brings a revenue stream to thousands of people and families around the globe. It is so important that when you travel to a country that you try and support its economy and the wonderful people that have welcomed you. Therefore buy local and support local business.
